Starter squad guide: front row, back row and who leads

New to the game? Here is how a squad works, and a few counters worth knowing. Post your own squads below.

THE SHAPE OF A SQUAD

Five critters fight: two in the front row, three behind. Predators hit the front row first, so that is where your tank goes.
One critter is the leader. Every critter has a leader ability; pick the one that suits the squad (Captain Thistle's Warren Rally speeds up the Burrowers, Sergeant Bristle's Oath of the Hedge gives allies Defense and a little healing every round).

A SOLID FIRST SQUAD

Front: Sergeant Bristle (hedgehog tank) and Captain Thistle (bunny warrior).
Back: Nurse Pudding (hamster healer), Lily (frog hunter), Private Pip (mouse warrior).
Bristle taunts on auto whenever it is ready, Pudding saves her group heal for when someone needs it, and the rest hit hard.

COUNTERS WORTH KNOWING

Foxes pounce. A hedgehog up front takes the pounce and bites back.
Kittens distract and weasels hypnotise. Drummer Nibs the guinea pig clears both with his Great Squeal.
Snakes swallow your critters whole. Hit the snake hard and it spits them back out; the swallowed critter is drawn inside the snake so you can see who it has.
Big packs in chapters 6 to 10 field up to nine predators. Area damage pays off: Caw's Mobbing Call, Sol's Solar Flare, Quill's Thrash.
Sister Olive the dove can bring a knocked-out critter back at full Health once her Second Chance is ready.

RAIDS

In a raid your critters keep their Health between attacks, and a knocked-out critter sits out for 12 hours. Rotate squads, and flee if a fight turns: a successful flee can spare your critters.

What are you running? Post your five, your leader and the chapter you are on.
